An Easy and Impressive Holiday Appetizer

When you’re bringing a dish to a holiday gathering, you want people to “oooh” and “aaah,” right? You want them to think it tastes amazing and looks like you spent all afternoon making it.
Here’s the secret … you don’t need to.

Shrimp spring rolls are quick to bake and taste incredible with a little homemade sauce. They’re crisp on the outside, tender inside, and smell downright irresistible as they come out of the oven.

How to Make Shrimp Spring Rolls

  1. Preheat your oven according to the package directions.
  2. Arrange the spring rolls on a parchment or foil lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake until golden brown and crisp.
  4. Try not to eat them all before serving. (Good luck with that.)

You can find shrimp spring rolls in most frozen food sections, they’re a lifesaver when you need something that looks fancy but takes almost no effort.

Don’t these look delicious?  I really didn’t want to take photos.  I wanted to devour them.  I restrained myself though because I also wanted to show you this dipping sauce I made!

Presentation Tips

Make it look extra festive by placing the spring rolls on a white platter with small bowls of dipping sauce. Add some fresh parsley or leafy greens for color. Here, I topped it with shredded orange peel. The cranberry red sauce with the golden spring rolls looks stunning on any holiday table.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Fast: Ready in about 20 minutes.
  • Flavorful: Sweet, tangy, and just a little spicy.
  • Festive: Perfect for holidays and parties.
  • Flexible: Works with shrimp, chicken, or veggie spring rolls.

It’s one of those recipes that looks restaurant level but takes almost no work. That’s a win in my book.

Notes

For a bright citrus pop, add a touch of fresh orange zest. Use a fine zester to remove just the thin orange peel, not the bitter white pith. I use the Deiss PRO Citrus Lemon Zester and it works perfectly for this recipe.
Accurate measuring makes a big difference in flavor balance. I’ve used these stainless steel measuring spoons for years, and they’re durable, easy to read, and dishwasher safe.

Tips for Orange Zesting

For a bright burst of flavor, add a little fresh orange zest to your sauce. Use a fine grater or zester to remove just the thin orange layer of the peel, avoid the white pith underneath, which tastes bitter.

Stir the zest into the sauce for a hint of citrus and a pop of color that makes it look as good as it tastes.

The golden, crispy shells of these shrimp spring rolls balance beautifully with the smooth, tangy dipping sauce. Each bite blends savory shrimp with a burst of sweet cranberry and citrus, it’s the kind of flavor combo that keeps everyone coming back for just one more.

  1. Ahoy Joy! Hope you had a great Christmas!

I’m always on the look out for good spring rolls and thought I would try the SeaPak Shrimp Spring Rolls for Christmas day snacking. They really are really, really good! They crisp nicely and the innards have nice pieces of shrimp. I made your cranberry sauce recipe and it was a gigantic hit! I used a horseradish coarse-milled brown mustard (Koops’ brand) and taste tested and decided to add some ground horseradish right from the jar, like I use for cocktail sauce. OMG! It was so good! Also, I didn’t have straight orange juice, I happened to have orange/pineapple/banana blend in my fridge and this worked too!

So, for those of you who have that crazy can of jellied cranberry sauce sitting patiently in your pantry and don’t know what to do with it, this is the recipe for you! It’s one of the best dipping sauce recipes I have ever found. Just awesome Joy, thanks a mil!

    1. Hi Kathleen!

That’s awesome! I’m thrilled that you liked the recipe. 🙂 Your changes to it sound great too. I think I need to go buy some more and make this again while my daughter is home from college. She didn’t get to try it last time and I know she’ll love it. Plus, it’s so easy she can make it when she gets back to school. Thank you for letting me know how much you liked it!

      Happy holidays!
      ~Joy~
