Tilapia fish tacos are a fresh and flavorful dinner that comes together quickly with flaky fish, crisp lettuce, salsa, and warm tortillas. They are perfect for an easy weeknight meal.

You know how some people love to cook? I didn’t really catch that passion. So for years, most of the cooking has been done by my husband, which has been awesome for me, especially since he’s a great cook.
The Story Behind These Fish Tacos
Recently he started traveling more for work, which meant I needed to come up with some quick dinners that were simple and actually tasted good. That is how these tilapia fish tacos came to be.
One night I looked in the fridge, grabbed what we had on hand, and gave it a try. I actually had a leftover tilapia filet from the day before, so I decided to use that as the base for the tacos. The result turned out to be fresh, fast, and surprisingly good. I can’t tell you how shocked I was. LOL!
These tilapia fish tacos are now one of my favorite easy weeknight meals. Flaky baked tilapia, crisp lettuce, salsa, and shredded cheese come together in warm tortillas for a dinner that is simple but full of flavor. If you’re not a big fan of cooking but still want a tasty meal, you’ll love this!

How to Bake Tilapia for Fish Tacos
Baking tilapia is one of the easiest ways to make flavorful fish tacos at home. The fish cooks quickly in the oven and flakes beautifully for tacos.
1. Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F.
2. Prepare the baking pan
Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
3. Season the tilapia
Place the tilapia fillets on the foil lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the fish with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
If you like a brighter flavor, you can also squeeze a little fresh lime juice over the fish before baking. This adds a light citrus flavor that works really well in fish tacos.

4. Bake the fish
Bake at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
5. Flake the fish
Use a fork to gently flake the cooked tilapia into pieces.
Add another small squeeze of lime if you like a little extra citrus flavor.
Flaking the fish also makes it easier to divide evenly between tortillas so every taco gets a good portion of fish.

Tools I Used
These are a few simple kitchen tools that made this recipe quick and easy to prepare.
Salad Spinner
A salad spinner is one of the easiest ways to wash and dry lettuce for these fish tacos. It spins off the extra water so the lettuce stays crisp and fresh instead of making the tortillas soggy.
I’m using one from OXO, but there are many good options available.
Quarter Sheet Pan
A quarter sheet pan is a great size for baking tilapia. It easily fits a couple of fillets and slides right into the oven without taking up much space. I like using one that includes a removable rack.
If you line the pan with foil, cleanup is quick and easy.

Citrus Press
A citrus press makes it quick and easy to add fresh lime juice to your fish tacos. I like squeezing a little lime over the tilapia before baking and sometimes another small squeeze after the fish is flaked. It adds a bright, fresh flavor that really brings the tacos together.
I use a citrus press from Pampered Chef, but you can easily find similar citrus presses on Amazon or wherever you like to shop.
