Cricut Christmas Door Card 12 Days of Christmas DAY THREE

The only thing missing in this photo are some packages of craft supplies at the doorstep. πŸ˜‰

Today I used my Gypsy and the Cricut Christmas cartridge to create a welded door card.Β  I really like the way it turned out.Β  I cut it large enough to hold a gift card inside.Β  Let me show you some of the things I used.Β  Hey, that wreath is from a stamp in my All Around Sentiments set.

There’s my card when it’s not quite finished.  I used that BIC marker to color in the window panes over the door.  I’m on a “let’s find a way to use vellum every day” kick, so I was happy to find a real need for it in this project.  Coloring the vellum with the yellow BIC marker helped give the look of light shining through the transom.  I ran the door through my Cuttlebug using the Tim Holtz Bricked embossing folder.

Here’s a post I wrote about labeling embossing folders.Β  I always do that. πŸ˜‰

One of the nice things about the BIC markers is that they can write on many surfaces, even glass!  That’s cool. πŸ˜€

SUPER FUN!Β  I stamped one of my All Around Sentiments stamps into that embossing ink.Β  I really like that brand.Β  It stays wet longer than some others I’ve used.Β  The reason that’s important is because it gives you a chance to pour embossing powder onto it.Β  When the image is damp the powder will stick.Β  In this photo I haven’t yet heated the image.Β  Next, I used a heat tool to warm the powder that is stuck to the image so it would melt.Β  After that I punched out the stamped images using 1″ and 1-1/2″ circle punches.Β  That’s how I made the wreath for the door! πŸ˜€

I decided to use the red “wreath” instead of the green one I made.Β  The green embossing powder didn’t match well with the rest of the door.Β  However, I was able to find a nice green from the BIC markers.Β  I used the marker to color all around the embossed sentiment.

Isn’t that little door knob fantastic?Β  I can’t believe the detail.Β  You can even see a little keyhole.Β  I used clear Stickles but they look golden when applied over the brown paper.

Here’s a post I wrote comparing different kinds of Stickles:Β  Distress, Glitz and Regular Stickles Compared.

  7. Three days of Christmas, three days of favorites! You smart girl!

*slapping my forehead* labeling the embossing folders is BRILLIANT!

Also, if you haven’t already: In framed areas, try using a bic marker of a just-darker color than the card stock on which you’re writing (for instance, the rectangle decorative “panels” on your door … it POPS the elements!)

  8. I need to make a list of the embossing folders I have because I can never remember which ones I already have when I go shopping. Haven’t tried the Bic Markers but would love to win them so I can!!!

  9. This is so cute. For some reason I just love to make door shape cards…don’t know why. Wish that more of my friends moved into new houses more often, that’s how much I love them. Anyway, i would love to have a set of these. I have a half set, but my darling 3 year old “colors” with them when I am crafting and therefore I only have a few left…would love to have some of my very own!

  10. Great card! I really appreciate you telling us exactly what you used to get the different effects. Love the way you labeled all your cuttlebug dies. I have always tried to put them back in the original wrappers so I can keep the name with them, but I think I will try your way as it would take less room.

  11. Love your ideas!! I have done the last 4 or 5 already!!! Thanks so much for the inspiration!

  12. You door card is so cute! I really like the Tim Holz bricked embossing folder and how you used the Bic Marker on the vellum to make it look like there’s a light on behind the door. What a wonderful effect. And what an easy way to make a wreath using your stamps. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  13. Dear Joy,
This door is so festive and cheerful! I don’t have this cartridge, but I’m thinking I could weld a similar door with my Gypsy.
    With Warm Regards,

  24. I really need to break out my vellum. Haven’t touched it in years and it’s feeling bitter an resentful. Thanks for bringing vellum back onto my art table.

  25. I love the card. I have just recently got me some of the Bic markers. Staples have them individual at a really good price, so I was able to pick the colors that I really like. I thought this was good, since I had never used them before. I have found that I would definetely be getting a bigger pack.
