Labeling Cuttlebug Embossing Folders…

crafting, Cricut, Cuttlebug, How to

I like to know exactly which embossing folders I have, so I label them and keep a list.

Sometimes I would be looking at cards people created on the Internet and I would fall in love with the embossing folder they used, but they wouldn’t know the name of it.  I would go crazy trying to figure out just which folder it was.  I decided that if I ever started discussing the items I used, I’d be sure to know the folder names.  So, that’s when I picked up a Sharpie and began labeling.

I use a black or dark colored Sharpie and write the name on the back of the folder.

Sometimes the writing goes on perfectly, but sometimes it smears.  I try not to let it bother me, but between you and me…it bugs me when it doesn’t go on right.  There is probably something that you could do to clean it or rough it up or whatever it needs to not smear but I don’t have the patience to figure out just what it needs.  Plus, it usually goes on just fine.

I also label the dies that I have, again using a black or dark colored Sharpie.

It occurred to me to cut out the pictures from the cover of the dies so I could be reminded of how they might be used.  I don’t do this for most things, but it struck me as a good idea when I bought the ones above.

Ugh, these look dirty!  Don’t worry, they’re not.

I think it really helps to have sets labeled.  Once you start to amass a bunch of them, it’s nice to know which ones go together.  Isn’t this set funny?  I only paid .99 for it a few days ago at Michael’s on clearance, but when I got it home I realized that it was really just 2 different things (with slight changes to the tops).  It makes sense that you might want to crank a bunch out at one time, but I still felt a little gypped…even though I got a deal on them.

Here’s another set I just had to label.

You never know, maybe you’re making a bunch of Valentines and want to be sure you’re using the whole set of “I love you” folders?  Ok…I can get a bit obsessed.

I have a whole box full of Sizzix folders too, but I don’t label them.  For one thing, they are mostly black and though I could use a silver Sharpie, I just don’t.  Frankly, I don’t really like them that much.  It’s the Cuttlebug folders I like the best! 😀

I used to keep all my Sizzix and Cuttlebug folders together, but now I have too many to hold them all in one box.  This is the box I keep the Cuttlebug folders in.  It was a whopping $1.75 at Walmart. 😀

All those folders and borders on the bottom, I haven’t labeled yet.   I’m not sure I will label the border ones.  I don’t really like to use them and there isn’t a ton of room for a big handwriting person like myself to scrawl their names on.

If you would like to keep up with all your folders like I do, you should go print this out.

Provo Craft’s Cuttlebug Folders List & Photos

I mark off every one that I have.  I see that the new ones have been added!  Woo hoo!  I already pre-ordered them, so I need to make a new list just so I can scratch them off.  Yes, obsession would be the word you’re thinking of.  LOL

Have fun!

This is such a good idea. I wish I had done that when I first started buying the folders. I post a pic and never know the "correct" name for the folder. No time like the present to start. TFS. Sandee

i have been saving all the packaging and putting it back in. That way, I have everything together, but I must admit, I am running out of space. I want to organize them by the season, and general use. That way I will have an idea of what I got and what I want. Have you seen the new Asian folders. That is going to be one of the next sets that I get.

[...] Here’s the paint can BEFORE I embossed it and put it together.  I label all of my Cuttlebug folders so I can tell you what I used.  This is the Distressed Stripes Cuttlebug folder.  I thought it would be a great match for drippy paint.  That foil paper is EXCELLENT!  I love the added metal looks it was able to help me create.  It embosses great too.   Here’s a link to a post I wrote about How to Label Embossing Folders.
