With Christmas rounding the corner, it’s so important to make plans to give the special people in your life those Extra fun stocking stuffers and gifts! ย I think these gum gifts are perfect for family and friends. ย Plus, no worries about giving them to the kiddos because they are sugar free! ย YAY!
I found Extra Gum at my local Wal-Mart at the checkout. ย I had the best experience there that day too. ย I couldn’t find a hand basket and I asked a young man where they were. ย He told me they were across the store and started heading in that direction. ย I started following him and he told me I could wait there and he’d bring it back to me, which he did. ย So nice!
Once I was home with all my Extra gum, I simply altered a box shape in my Silhouette Studio software. ย You can use any box, just shrink it to about 5 inches. ย The exact sizes I used for this box were: ย Base – 5.075″ x 5.760″, Top – 4.625″ x 5.295″. ย Add any banner type shape or rectangle to the middle of the lid and set it to cut so that the word “Extra” can show through from the gum box. ย That shape needs to be 1″ x 3″. ย My box holds two packs of Extra gum.
I kept this project super simple by using the print and cut features of the Silhouette. ย I wrote my message on the box, added color to everything and just printed and cut. ย Easy! ย Need help with that? ย Here’s a video and here’s a written post. ย More help? ย No problemo. ย Check out my Silhouette tutorials.
I glued all the tabs together and my box was assembled! ย Woo hoo!
Now, the only thing left to do is decide which gum to add to each box. ย I decided to put the Spearmint Extra gum in the front because the green best matched my box. ย Since everyone in my family loves all the flavors, I put Polar Ice behind one Spearmint and Peppermint behind the other. ย I tied ribbon around the boxes and was all done.
I love the way these turned out! ย They’re a super fun gift to keep on hand for last minute thank you gifts as well as stocking stuffers.
Here’s one for that friend, husband or child with a sense of humor! ย I bet we all need both boxes! ๐ ย LOL!
Extra Happy Holidays!
I loooove these! Would you consider selling the cut files? I’d love to give these to coworkers, but i’m scared I won’t put the window to see the “extra” in the right place if I try to follow the tutorial on my own.
Hi Erica!
Thanks so much for that big compliment! I’d love to be able to share the files but I altered a box that was created by Silhouette, so I can’t share that. So sorry! My suggestion is that you use some “test” paper to see what is working best. I always do that. I made 3 or 4 boxes before I got it just right. I use Wausau Paper Index Card Stock, 92 Brightness, 110 lb, Letter, White, 250 Sheets per Pack (49411) for my “throwaway” paper. I hope that helps!

Another adorable little gift idea, Joy! I hope I can line up that banner just right! You soon will need to be designing and selling cut files!

Such a cute idea! I’ll be making these for my 4 kids. Hmm…let’s see, which ones shall I make, naughty or nice? Thanks for the idea!
These are awesome!! I have the Silhouette SD and I’m not very good with it ๐ Do you know if the SD has the capabilities of printing the words on the lid along with cutting or will it just cut out the box shape? I googled the questions but can’t find the answer!
Hi Barbara,
Thank you! Yes, you can print and cut using the Silhouette SD. Here are projects I’ve made with it: Silhouette SD projects. You’ll see that several of them are print and cut. I hope that helps!
Happy crafting!

Wish you’d post the file in Silhouette store – I’d buy it!
These are adorable! I want to make them for all of my nieces and nephews, and have each of them reach in a bag and pull out whether they’ve been naughty or nice – LOL! Can you tell me the exact name of the box I could use from the Silhouette store? I’ve been searching and can’t find quite the right box like yours. Thanks so much, Joy! Love your craftiness and your puppy Saban!!! ๐
Hi Jennifer!
Thank you for letting me know that you liked this! It was a super fun gift to give and fit both adults and kiddos, so that was great! I used a box called Advent box 12 that was part of a special release that Silhouette did a year or so ago. I looked for it in their store but don’t see it. I think you can make just about any box fit. Take a look at Lori Whitlock’s boxes. I highly recommend her designs. She’s great! Saban says hi! ๐
Thank you,
~Joy~
