I’m just SOOO PROUD of my friend Sunita!! She earned a spot on HGTV’s All American Handyman. When she told me she was going to be on it I told her 2 things: “Congratulations” and “I’m not at all surprised”. Truly. She’s fantastic. One day I brought her over to my house to show her the iron staircase baluster’s I’d just paid $$$ to have installed. No kidding…the next day she went to Home Depot, bought some baluster’s and redid her entire staircase by herself. THAT DAY. That’s one of my favorite stories about her, but that’s not all she’s done. Sometimes I can go outside and hear saws and things running. It’s almost always her. 😉 Well, she didn’t win on the show, but that doesn’t matter. She’s a star anyway.
Sunita’s birthday and the HGTV show premier were at the same time. So her sweet husband decided to throw her a surprise HGTV & B’day party.
So, Guess Who Made Decorations?
Here’s How I Made the Clapperboard:
The blue blade housing you see there is the Deep Cut Blade.
I told you I needed that Locker Talk Cricut cartridge, remember? Well, I just got it and already found this immediate use for it. YAY! I used it to make this Director’s clapperboard. The only thing about it is that there aren’t many layers, so I had to cut those white areas out by hand. 🙁 I used thin 12×12 chipboard and the Deep Cut Blade to cut out several clapperboards which I layered together so I could make it sturdy.
Next, I cut out the same image again but this time I used some black paper instead of chipboard. Then I used my trusty ATG 714 gun and glued that sucker together. I heart my ATG gun. It’s a hard worker.
Why yes I was trying to find a way to show you my manicure without being too obvious. It’s still kind of contrived, isn’t it? LOL!
I used some poster board to create the back to this clapperboard. I taped the glossier side to the inside and had the matte side facing out. Reason? (Oh, I can hardly wait to tell you my genius idea! LOL!) I decided that we could pass this little creation around Sunita’s party and have all the party goers sign it as a remembrance for her. LOVE IT! It worked out great and everyone signed it. I’m still wondering why in the WORLD my DH signed it for both of us since I always do the signing and his writing is — well, I love him. LOL!
Ahhh…vinyl…how I love you. Seen my Cricut Vinylology DVD?
I rarely use vinyl on paper, but it is super cool when you do isn’t it? Using vinyl was much easier than gluing down all of these individual letters. HOWEVER, I think this Cricut brand vinyl (that I just bought…grrr) is old or something, because it didn’t want to come up off of the paper. So, I actually DID have to glue down some of the letters and that’s how I got it sort of crooked. Plus, it was 1 hour until the party and I still needed to shower and dress. I was in a mild panic.
I finally used my very least favorite cartridge! Jubilee font cartridge you finally have a job. I needed a skinny font for this.
And Now…the Give Away!
Ok, in honor of the deep cut blade that made this possible…and in thanks to reaching 800 Fans on the Joy’s Life Facebook Fan page I’m giving away a Cricut Deep Cut Blade to one winner. Woo hoo!
