When people ask me what Cricut cartridge they should buy as one of their first ones, I always suggest the Create a Critter cartridge. It’s cute, fun and easy to layer. I love it! . Not too long ago, Cricut came out with the Create a Critter 2 cart, that’s the one I’m using today. Here are some other projects using Create a Critter.
You’ve seen me use my Silhouette Cameo a lot lately but my first love was the Cricut. As I was discussing with my friend Susan F. on Facebook the other day, I am an equal opportunity die cut machine appreciator. LOL! Just because you love one machine doesn’t mean you can’t love another. 😉 I also use and enjoy the KNK Zing and the Sizzix Eclips as well as the Cameo. Here are things I’ve made using the Cricut. I even made a whole DVD about using vinyl with the Cricut!
I cut the bear out at 3″ and the flowers out at 1-1/2″. Next, I ran the pieces through my Xyron. Have you used one? It’s soooo easy! You put your item through one side and pull it through (like with the X in the background) or crank it through (like with the blue Xyron on the left) and your crafty item comes out with adhesive on the back all ready to stick to your project. There are other inserts for Xyron’s too. They’re sooo cool! Here’s a post where I use a larger Xyron.
I have a love/hate relationship with glitter. It looks pretty but it always ends up stuck to my face like a wild glitter weekend beauty mark or in my eye. Solution? Stickles. I’m using them to give a glittery effect to the flowers and bow, without the mess. Want to know more about Stickles? Check out these posts: What’s a Stickle? and Stickles Compared.
I’m using the Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page Loops Punch Set to help me create a border/tag and to punch the corners. I also inked the bear in brown to give it some dimension.
This sentiment is from the “Tag You’re It 2” stamp set. Need more stamps that fit with the Create a Critter cartridge? Check out my “Lots of Pun” stamp set. I made it specifically to work with the first Create a Critter cartridge. It has many other uses too!

Hi joy, I am new to your site but so far have loved your projects. I found you looking for a way to make waxed paper bags. You see I am a girl scout leader and the very first girl scout cookies were cooked by mother and daughter at home and put in waxed paper bags with a girl scout sticker seal to hold it shut and sold door to door. I am plannig on replicating that for my parent cookie meeting. But on that note I do many projects that these machines would be useful for. At the end of the year, for one example I do what I call a memory page. I guess it’s like scrap booking pages for a hole troop, than i laminate the page when i’m done a put a fancy ribbon to hang it from so the girls can see what they have done that year. Like i said it’s alot of pages and glueing so this would help out greatly. Thanks, Jaime D.
Happy Crafting!
I seem to make a lot of cards these days in my crafting – always behind on someone’s birthday or need a card for a special occasion! I enjoy making mini albums too!
What a “beary” cute card, Joy!!

I have made loads of cards for years. I have recently fell in love with mini-albums during this last year, I took all of my Christmas cards and turned them into a mini album. I lave this idea for any kind of cards, birthdays, I am doing one for my Dad’s 80th birthday. All ready to start trying out the cricut with vinyl, just need to talk myself into it, have been a little fearful of this. Thank you for the give away. Have a great crafting day.
OOH! I love a good givaway! Thanks for a chance at winning! My favorite thing to craft would have to be scrapbook pages. Thanks for all your inspiration!
I just made a bunch of cupcake toppers using snowflakes from “Joys of the Season” Cricut cartridge. Both of the Xyrons sticker makers would be a great addition to my cache of “glues” for use in making cards, etc.
BTW, great give-away. I’m hoping to be a winner … one of these days.

I agree that each cutter has its charms. I just got a Cameo for Christmas and look forward to using it. Have used the C— for a year and have really enjoyed it.
I mostly make cards. Lately have been trying more altered objects and mixed media. I have a small Xyron that i use often.thanks for the drawing.
Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great prize! I have been making lots of banners lately. With all the holidays and Valentine’s and St. Patty’s Day coming, banners just add so much to decorate my home. I make different, yet simple ones; leaf ones for the fall, snowflake ones for the winter, heart ones for Valentine’s, and I’ll be making clover ones for St. Patty’s Day. There seems to always be a reason for a banner! They’re so simple! I just cut the snowflakes, hearts, etc. at various sizes, use stickles or other embellishments to jazz them up, punch holes in them, and string them with monofilament. I use the tiny, little hole punch which allows the banner pieces to stay snug along the monofilament but it still allows me to slide them around to easily adjust the length. It’s an easy enough project for the littlest of hands to get involved, too. My nieces love embellishing them and putting them together.
Cute little bear and love the punching loops…love my punches. I also would not want to be without my Cricut or Cameo…like children I can love them both. Some carts would be so hard to be without and thinking I might need Create a Critter 2! It looks like the Zyrons are handy and think they might be handy for tiny parts like the bear nose…always wanted to try one out. Thanks for sharing your cute project.

I like to make vinyl for my wall. Actually I just bought Tie the Knot Cartridge and wanted some ideas for what to do first and I saw that you had an awesome tutorial for these heart boxes for Valentines Day. I love your blog and look forward to reading more posts! 🙂 Have a great day!!!

I just got a silhouette and I have been making 3d projects and labels and wedding decor!
I am learning how to use the cricut create. My projects lately have been working with vinyl. I had been looking for adhesive paper or sticker paper and found working with vinyl and contact paper works well.Without money, I have shown others the way to make gifts and shop with coupons and save the earth.Recycle. I recycled empty note boxes collected from a stationary place and glued different items on them cut from magazines and junk mail. I toke the air freshner wall plug ins and sprays and applied designs, letters, and phrases to them. I use what is cut out and the part that is left, is used also as a stencil applied, too. Each box was filled with snow flakes and stars cut from magzines as a filler. Christmas was a big success among the family members. Each gift box was personalized. Crafting and recycling allows the gift to be special and saves money. I had seen the Xryon but did not understand its function. I am glad I joined your site. You have opened my eyes and inspired me to try other crafty projects. I would like to own a Xyron one day.

Hi, I was wondering where I can buy the punch to create that bear in the picture, if you don’t mind to answer. 🙂 btw, I loved the tips.

Hi Juliana,
That cute bear is from the Create a Critter 2 Cricut cartridge. It’s made to work with Cricut machines. I hope that helps! 🙂
