Homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits – She loved them!

Here’s my best dog friend in the world, Saban.  I adore her.  She’ll turn 7 months old this week.  She’s almost as long as I am tall and she weighs 90+lbs now.  Remember when we first brought her home?  She was so little!  Here are some other photos of her on my English Mastiff Pinterest board.  Ok, all that being said, today I decided to try my hand at creating homemade dog biscuits for her.  She loved them!

The Recipe

It didn’t take too many ingredients to make Homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits and wasn’t any more difficult than making cookies.  The very best thing about them is that you know exactly what your dog is eating.  (Yep!  I’m still using my vinyl flour container.)

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour wheat is probably better!
  • water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.
  • Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.
  • The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.
  • You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.
  • Roll to 1/2-inch thick.
  • Cut into shapes.
  • Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

Dog Bone Cookie Cutters

I do suggest that you buy some dog bone cookie cutters.  Even though these biscuits are fine for human consumption, they’re not exactly a yummy human treat.  Cutting them into bone shapes will remind you to serve them to a dog and not to a friend.  LOL!  These dog bone cookie cutters are great.  You can get them at Amazon.

I mixed everything in my KitchenAid mixer.

After it’s all mixed together, roll out the dough and cut out the biscuits.  They need to be about a half an inch thick.

  1. Hi Joy, love the dog biscuit idea. I’ve made them using dog bone cookie cutters at the nursing home with residents for our resident Golden Retriever, Sophie. She loves them! Just a word of caution — they mold quickly because of lack of preservatives. Tell Saban to eat them quickly!

    1. HOW LONG DO THEY LAST BEFORE MOLD,I WONT TO MAKE THEM FOR A BAKE SALE ?

      1. It’s been a while since I made them, so I can’t be sure. I’d try a small batch and see how well they work in your climate.

  2. Now I have to get a dog just so I can make her some cookies! Love the bone cookie cutters! Saban is so lucky!
