Wild Card Cricut House Card – Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

I love this House Card I made!

About the House Card:

I was asked by a super sweet lady to make some cards for her for some different occasions.  One of the things she asked me to make was a card for her next door neighbor who had helped her a bunch when she really needed it.  This house card seemed perfect for a neighbor!  There is a little heart inside the door that says, “Thanks so much”.  There’s even a little black brad doorknob!  I made the little “Absolutely Fabulous” sign and tied it up with a leftover strip of paper.  The roof is chalked and so are the planters and sides of the card. I don’t remember what size I cut this house…but I can tell you…it fits a business size envelope.

Love it!! I have lots of questions. How does the chalk not rub off? I’m considering buying a Big Shot just for embossing. What extras do I need for it to function as an embosser?

    1. Great questions! (and thank you :D) 1st – The chalk question is SUCH a good question because it seems to make no logical sense that chalk would not rub off, right? I’m in total agreement. Seems like you’d need some kind of spray or something to keep it on. In fact…the trick is that it is a FLUID CHALK that dries like ink. How cool is that?! This is what I used Colorbox Fluid Chalk Cat’s Eye Inkpad . I included a link there so you can see it. The ones I’m using are the small single pads that are literally shaped like a cat’s eye. Then you can just rub them directly on whatever you want to chalk.

I LOVE my Sizzix Big Shot. (There’s a link to it at Amazon for $69. 😀 ) I use my Big Shot almost exclusively for embossing. I sometimes use it to cut things out with dies, but I really don’t buy many of those unless I find them really cheap and just can’t resist, LOL. I am powerless against a good craft deal! 😛 If you buy your Big Shot new, it should come with a multipurpose platform and a pair of standard cutting pads. With those things, you’re ready to use Cuttlebug embossing folders right away (and the Sizzix ones of the same size and material). However, if you’re planning to use the Sizzix Texturz Texture Plates (which are cool because they are bigger than the Cuttlebug folders…though they have come out with a few big ones lately too) you’ll need to buy some extras. SO UNFAIR!! To use those you’ll also need Sizzix Silicone Rubber AND Sizzix Impressions Pad . What’s cool about the Sizzix Impressions Pad is that you can emboss with any metal stencil when you have it. Then there are the extended cutting pads and things you can get into later. They are for use with the extended Bigz dies…I haven’t tried those. Whew…I hope this helps!
