I’ve always been a fan of Halloween.  I  love the time of year, the costumes, decorating and scary movies.  As my kids get older, some great traditions still stick around, one is “BOOing”.  It’s where you anonymously treat a friend or neighbor with a gift or goody basket and you leave a note asking for one thing in return – that they pay the treat forward.  So, for those of you over 21, here’s a super fun take on the whole Booing idea…Hallo-wine!

Now before you say you don’t have an embroidery machine, let me stop you right there.  You don’t need one.  I used my affordable, Brother SE400, along with some sewing software, to create that saying, but that’s where the need for a machine stops.  The bag is made by cutting one piece of material to 12″ x 17″.  Fold the fabric in half, so you have a 6″ width.  Pin the side and straight stitch going in about 1/4″.  Now straight stitch the bottom.  You can fold down the top and stitch that for a more finished look, or just cut it with pinking shears for a more rustic look.  Turn it right side out and you’re done.  For real.

I sized this bag to fit my wine gift, which is a bottle of Robert Mondavi Private Selection Chardonnay.

If you want to embroider your bag, do that before you sew it!  I’m using the Brother SE400.  It’s a great beginner machine and this is an easy beginner project.  I should know, I’m a beginner!  Add simple Happy Hallo-WINE text or find a cute image to add.  Anything Halloween based works…so would a wine glass!  I’ve made several of these HalloWINE Embroidered Gift Bags and they’re always a hit!

Here’s the simplest idea in the world for enjoying some wine with friends for Hallo-WINE.  I just had to say Hallo-WINE again, it cracks me up.  I love an antipasto salad but salad is not good finger food.  LOL!  Instead, make some mini antipasto skewers before your pals come over.  You can buy everything at the store, mostly prepared.  You will have to boil the pasta.  You’ll need: prosciutto, mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes, cheese tortellini, basil/parsley or thyme, artichoke hearts, black olives and skewers.  Boil the pasta, drain it and let it cool.  Now assemble each item as listed.  You’re done!

Don’t forget to pick up Robert Mondavi Private Selection wine while you’re at the store!  It goes great with these antipasto skewers!!

These are such easy ways to both gift and enjoy wine!

While you’re at the store, look for the “You’ve Been Hallo-wined” Instant redeemable coupons and mail in rebates for Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon or Robert Mondavi Private Selection Chardonnay.  Valid from (10/1-11/30).  Some bottles are already ready for gift giving because they have tags that double as gift tags!  The tags includes a “You’ve Been Hallo-wined” poem that has a Mummy’s Mulled Wine recipe on back.  YUM!
