I love Fall and all the things that it brings with it, like pumpkin spice lattes, the beautiful changing leaves, fall festivals and cooler weather. What I don’t love about it is having to clean and get ready for the upcoming holidays. I know we still have time to do that and can put it off for a while, but I’m ready to embrace the season and don’t want to wait until the last minute to get started. Here are a few things that I do that make fall cleaning faster and easier. I hope it helps you too!
Tips to Make Fall Cleaning Faster and Easier
Bring out the Fall scents! Scent can have such an effect on your mood, reminding you of special times and places and even inspiring you to action. A fall scent can make me ready to drag out my boots and get cozy by the fire, even if it’s still hot outside! I don’t do that if it’s super hot, but I do feel the pull when I smell fall in the air. Light your favorite candles, or spray Febreze to get you in the fall cleaning mood.
Use a Timer and make a game out of quick cleaning. Realizing that such a small amount of time has passed while you did the dishes or laundry is often enough to inspire you to take on other tasks. Set a specific amount of time for something and work until the timer goes off. If you beat the clock, move on to another task until it runs out. It’s oddly fullfilling to beat the clock. The other payoff? You got some cleaning out of the way!
Don’t procrastinate. Accomplish big projects a little at a time. That means you can’t wait until Thanksgiving company is coming and start cleaning your house from top to bottom, while still cooking a full meal. I mean, it can be done, but if you start earlier you’ll actually be able to enjoy the day without being completely worn out.
Buy products that make cleaning easier. I hate to clean, so I do whatever I can to make the process faster and easier. That means picking products that are light enough for me to use without help and that require the least amount of effort possible. I kid you not. I really think like that. The Swiffer WetJet can clean and shine your floors quickly because you don’t have to keep changing water, running back to your sink or dragging a bucket around. Just press a button and the Swiffer WetJet will spray cleaning solution on the floor in front of you. Swipe it clean and you’re done. Cleanup is easy too, just dispose of the pad when you’re finished. It’s perfect for cleaning muddy dog prints off of the floor!
Make it Smell Fresh, the easy way. I’m all for steam cleaning your carpets and your furniture. However, that isn’t a quick, easy or inexpensive answer. If you want your house to smell clean, try spraying Febreze Fabric Refresher on your furniture and adding some Febreze Air Effects to the air. They will quickly get rid of pet smells, that popcorn you burned, and the lingering scent of some shoes that need to be replaced.
Get Everyone Involved. Do yourself a favor, save cleaning jobs for the people who do them best and you move on to something else. Sometimes it seems easier to complete cleaning jobs yourself, rather than asking for help. I have three kids. I know how it is. Regardless, if one person is good at taking out trash, dusting or doing dishes, that’s their job. I tell them specifically what I want done and I praise them when they complete it. For my family, I’ve found that if they see me and my husband cleaning, they’re more likely to help and stay focused. You know how it works best in your family, but I tell you, the minute they catch me sitting down, I’ve pretty much lost them. So, keep the tasks short, assign them to the right people and work while they work. Pretty soon, you’ll all be finished and proud of the things you accomplished.
Stop worrying and get Busy. I think a lot of the time we (I) get overwhelmed by the oncoming fall, because I want everything to be nice and go smoothly for the upcoming holidays. It will and it won’t, right? A lot of things are going to go great, but life throws us curve balls now and again. We just have to roll with it. Another thing I think a lot of people (me too) worry about is not having a perfect house. I can point out an obvious problem in mine. We need new floors, but you know what? I can’t get new floors right now, but I’m going to do my best to take care of them and I’m still going to invite people over.
This new and improved Swiffer WetJet gives you a more thorough clean in just minutes. That’s because the ABSORB + LOCK™ strip helps trap dirt & grime deep in the pad. I’m using the WetJet wood solution. It’s safe for cleaning virtually every finished wood floor type.
So, our things might not be perfect, but they can be clean and nice, right?! Don’t let worries get in your way. You have control over how you take care of your home, even if your dog just tore a hole in your couch and your kitchen rugs are getting threadbare on the edges. You just grab a permanant marker and color them in. I’m just sayin’. I’ve got a Swiffer Wet Jet, some Febreze and a permanent marker.
You can do this.
