Family movie night is a staple in our house. It has been since our kids were tiny. I think because we started the tradition when they were so small it’s easy to keep it as part of our family time now that they are older and tower over me. I like it when we gather in our den to watch a movie because sometimes the movie brings up topics that we stop and discuss. It’s nice to be able to pause and talk so we each can share our thoughts. Plus, it’s a great way to make an evening special at home. It’s so easy to make an occasion extra special by adding a few touches that theme the night. For example, I picked up The Boxtrolls movie on Blu-Ray/DVD for us and themed the night by adding images from the official movie site’s movie matchup game to boxes that held these yummy marshmallow pretzel popcorn bars that my husband and I created.
I picked up The Boxtrolls DVD and Pop Secret 10ct Home-Style Popcorn while I was shopping at Walmart recently. I was super glad that the box had 10 bags of popcorn in it because my husband and I made up this recipe and weren’t sure if it would work or not. It did! So, the bonus is we have plenty of popcorn to make this again or to try some more popcorn ideas. Yum!

Here is one of the bars before coating it with the vanilla candy coating. It’s good like this! You could eat them with or without the coating.
You can simply wrap your bars in wax paper and adhere The Boxtrolls images with twine or a few glue dots to decorate your bars. I decided to create these boxes using my Silhouette Cameo and some kraft cardstock. I thought that really tied the box theme together. I used this file but I only used the box part. I also deleted the handle and made the box wider and shorter. Here are some Silhouette Cameo tutorials if you need help.
I cut the images, assembled the boxes and glued The Boxtrolls onto their cute little boxes.
Our hero, Eggs!
I made sure to cut the bars to fit the boxes before they were covered with the vanilla candy coating.
These popcorn bars are easy to eat and look super cute in their themed Boxtrolls boxes!
Pick up a copy of The Boxtrolls, pop some Pop Secret popcorn and enjoy a great family movie night!
