I’m finding that more and more often I’m enjoying using a variety of textures and media in my projects.  I feel like it stretches me as a designer and gives me a wider creative vocabulary.  I’m working with some pieces (wooden frame, metal flowers, fabric brads and bling) sent to me by Freckled Fawn, from their OhDeerMe Embellishment Kit.  The rest of the things are from my crafty stash.

Finally!  I’ve had that vellum and the paper behind it for at least two years.  I’m finally using it!  Fist pump!  LOL!

My daughter recently told me that her high school art teacher used to say, “It’s not yours until you change it.”  I can’t get that out of my head.  I used to be content using things as they were when I bought them but those words keep coming to me.  I see her point and I agree.  So, I added VersaMark to the wood frame and covered it with gold embossing powder.  It’s a start. 😉

The embossing powder gives the frame a soft shimmer and texture.  I used a Sharpie to blacken the outside edges of it.  I glued it over the “live your dreams” vellum sentiment with Zip Dry Paper glue.

Simple layering with Glue Dots helped me finish the card.  I love that May Arts ribbon.  The leaves are their ribbon too!  The stamp is from Close to My Heart.

I love how all the items are so different but work so well together.  Hey, I even used the adhesive cork again.  You know how I love it.  I’ve used it a lot lately.

  7. I love to embellish cards, but the problem I’ve run into is you have to either put a heavily embellished card into a small box or a padded envelope if you want to mail the card.

  8. I am going to take the phrase “It’s not yours until you change it” to heart. I have a difficult time altering things so I always feel that my work is incomplete. This is, I believe, the solution. Thank you for sharing!

  9. Love it! I, too, have quite a stash and I’m slowly branching out of my comfort zone and mixing things up a bit. I love people’s reaction when I show them something that goes against my normal.
