Paula Deen Signed Cookbook GIVE AWAY & Savannah Trip

Paula Deen’s Lady & Sons Restaurant is a Savannah Tradition.

Thanks for being patient while I took a little vacation. 😀  DH and I had a great time in Savannah, GA and Hilton Head, SC.  This is the outside of Paula Deen’s restaurant, Lady & Sons.  I love to eat there when we visit Savannah.  If you want to eat there you usually need to get in line by 9:30 am to make your reservation.  Of course, this depends on season and day.

Rumor has it that the Deen Brothers will soon open a restaurant where Sorry Charlie’s used to be. 😀

We got in line by 9:15am and the line was all the way around the block, past Sorry Charlie’s and around the other side of the building.  It’s usually a pretty fun wait because DH and I always meet some cool people in line.

I took this through my windshield, sorry for the road dirt at the top. 😉

Have you ever seen the Southern Live Oak?  I love trees and live oaks are among the most beautiful, I think.  Here are some lining the streets of Savannah.  They are covered with Spanish moss, which really isn’t a moss at all and is in the same family as the pineapple!

Here’s a BEFORE the container ship photo.

One of my favorite things to do is to watch the container ships come down the Savannah River. You can’t really appreciate how huge they are until you see one in person.

And now look!! WOW!

Hey, I bet some of my packages are in there!  Wait for me!!  😉

We were so glad the weather was beautiful because that meant…BEACH!!  We headed to Hilton Head, SC.

It was perfect weather.

We saw 5 starfish in perfect condition making their way back to sea.  (Don’t worry, they weren’t all the way back here.  They were close to the water.)

I didn’t forget about you while I was gone.  I even brought you something!  It’s a “Lady and Sons” cookbook signed by Paula Deen!!

Just leave a comment for a chance to win this awesome cookbook signed by Paula Deen. 🙂  I’ll choose a winner Monday, October 4th, 2010.

AND THE WINNER IS:

wow Looks like you had a great trip. Would love to have the cookbook, but i think if i won i would give it to my Daughter she is a big fan of Paula Deens. I am also but she is constantly going to the computer and getting her recipes to cook for their big meal in the evenings. On another note Joy those big containers, thats what i did for a living when i was still in the work force, I loaded them containers and let me tell you they were a pain in the ____. One time i shipped my walkie talkie to the Netherlands. And one time there was a bat in one that tried to attack me. Well guess thats enough of my ramblings. Thanks so much for the chance to win a great prize. Vicky

    1. Winnielosie (Vicky),
Your container ship story is fascinating to me! I’m sure it’s a pain when you’re the one loading it. LOL about shipping your walkie talkie to the Netherlands!

    1. Tanyat,
That’s so cool about buying your Mom all of PD’s cooking show DVD’s. Paula is so talented and such a hoot too! DH and I still laugh about one of her Thanksgiving shows where she added so much sugar to a yam and then covered the whole thing in marshmallow and then did something else to it. When she was finished she said, “Can y’all believe that’s a vegetable?!” DH and I laughed so hard we cried. 😀

  31. I love Paula Deen! I have been to the Lady and Sons restuarant once. It’s great and Its probably a good thing I don’t live in Savannah, I would be eating there everyday.

    1. Me too Mlannan!! DH and I couldn’t decide if living in Savannah would be good or bad for our health. We do a lot of walking, but then the food is a killer! LOL!
      ~Joy~

  32. I think Savannah is one of the most romantic places to go! I have spent several anniversaries there. One of the times we went to the Ladies & Sons we purchased a shirt my daughter picked out that said “Our hoe’s are free.” (meaning with each meal there you get free hoecakes). Well, my 20 something daughter wears the shirt to chuch choir practice! One of the white haired members asks her what does THAT mean and my daughter just laughs. Mind you, my daughter is sitting right by the preacher’s wife who just laughs too and says “I’ve raised two sons, so nothing is going to shock me now!” Oh, well, it sounds like you had a great time! Did you get a T-shirt, too? LOL!

    1. LOL Mcfsmimi!! Yes, getting hoecakes at Paula’s usually cracks me up. 😉 I skipped the shirt that said, “Put some South in your Mouth.” However, I did buy a “Hay Y’all” that has a cow with hay on it. LOL! I now wish I’d bought the shirt that I put back which was just a red Hey Y’all, but I usually don’t like wearing shirts with sayings on the front. I like them on the back. (With the exception of my Gypsy “crafty” shirt. 😉 )
I agree with you about Savannah. It is romantic. I have a great time every time we go. 🙂 … even when the kids come too! LOL!
      ~Joy~
