Well, I did it! I participated in my first 5k race yesterday! It was harder than I thought it would be but mostly because I’ve never raced before. Usually I walk and think, “Just do your best, it’s not a race” but today it was a race! I was grateful that I had recently started participating in Omron’s “Walk Out on Wednesdays” program. It’s a great idea! It encourages women to drop what they’re doing, grab a friend and take time for themselves to exercise at least once a week. I need that reminder, plus it helped me prepare for this race!
It’s so easy to ignore exercising, especially when you’re busy with work, home, children and other activities. So, taking time at least one day a week to grab a friend and hit the road (or sidewalk) is a great idea! I’m wearing the Omron Alvita Wireless Activity Tracker (HJ-327T). It works along with the free Omron Fitness mobile app to help you set personal goals related to steps, miles and calories.
You can transfer your fitness data wirelessly to your smartphone and check your progress along the way. I need to be able to track my progress, so I appreciate that. I also like that I can clip the tracker just about anywhere. Sometimes, I don’t want to wear it and would rather clip it to my purse, which goes almost everywhere I go…except for scheduled exercise because that would be weird.
It’s amazing how much a friend can encourage you. My friend, Jamie, encouraged me to participate in this 5k, which was a goal that I kept putting off. She was supposed to be at the race with me but due to recent winter weather our 5k was rescheduled and she had plans to be out of town this weekend. Well, I know we’ll participate in another one together soon! Talk about encouraging others? My husband and youngest son signed up for this 5k after I passed on the encouragement to them. They said that I was the reason they signed up. See? You can make a difference in your own health and the health of others just by getting out there and moving! Sometimes motivation from a friend or being able to track your progress with a tracker like the Omron Alvita Wireless Activity Tracker (HJ-327T) can make a big difference. So, when this Wednesday comes around…drop what you’re doing and walk out on it. It might have you crossing a finish line sooner than you think!
