Using Vinyl to Mark Artificial Christmas Tree Branches

Each year I’ve become more frustrated with 2 artificial corner Christmas trees I put in our foyer…

and not just because of this guy…who stalks and attacks them.

Right after Thanksgiving, my oldest son and I (yes, and the cat too) plopped down on the floor and sorted through the branches trying to figure out just which one was part of the 3 red, 3 green, 6 brown and so on.

Messed up tag still on branch, new tag in hand.

What made it so tough, besides the tree attacking cat?  Over the years all of the little color indicators have discolored or fallen off the branches completely.

Vinyl Scraps…to the rescue!

To avoid another holiday season of dealing with these poorly marked limbs, it occurred to me…USE VINYL…MAKE NEW TAGS.  This is what I like to call a “Duh Moment”.  I ran for the scissors and some vinyl scraps and began my fake tree branch tag makeover!

Don’t have vinyl scraps?  You can use colored tape.

You’ll be so glad you did this!

Trees, you will not waste my time trying to figure out which branch goes where next year!  Booyah!

That’s right. My tree limbs are awesome now! LOL!

I hope that tip helps someone as much as it has helped me.  I can’t believe how many years I’ve spent trying to sort those limbs when, if they had been properly marked, I could have been a right jolly old elf instead of Grinch yelling at artificial tree limbs.  Though, I’ll still need to Grinch at the cat to stop eating the trees.  Some traditions never go away…no matter how much grinching you do vinyl you use.  LOL!

Thank you to my awesome son who not only helped me assemble the trees but took most of the photos in this post while I labeled the branches with their new tags.

Be sure to come by tomorrow for an awesome Lettering Delights blog hop!

  1. What a great idea Joy! Thankfully my newer tree doesn’t have those kind of branches but I DO remember the pain it was to do get the right branches in the right place!
I have to say you Kitty is just so cute!

    1. Teresa,
Our main tree is one of the newer kinds and I sure am glad! I do adore these older corner ones though. I’d like to think I could keep them forever but if my cat keeps eating them I’ll be lucky if they have a few more seasons before they look like the Charlie Brown tree. LOL! Now that you told him he’s cute, I’m sure he’ll remind me of his awesomeness all day. 😉
