Here’s one of my favorite recipes: spicy marinated hot dogs!  I love it because it’s not all about the toppings, though they can be as awesome as you want, this is all about the hot dog.  Marinating adds a spicy kick which is delicious whether you like to pile on the toppings or eat it plain.  For me, the kind of hot dog I use is extremely important.  I only ever eat Hebrew National beef franks.  I started eating them about 20 years ago.  Having been a hot dog fan all my life, I wanted one made from premium cuts of beef.  I wanted a hot dog I could trust.  There are no artificial flavors, colors or fillers.  I love the flavor and I love knowing what I’m eating.  This has been the brand for me since the first time I tried them!

This Spicy Marinated Hot Dogs recipe will make you wonder why you didn’t try it this way sooner!  I’m using hot sauce, finely chopped onions and fresh thyme (from my garden) to create a delicious marinade.

This recipe is simple!  Mix the hot sauce, onion and fresh thyme then marinate the Hebrew National Beef Franks and mixed ingredients in a zip top bag for 2 hours.  Next, simply grill and pour the marinade over the hot dogs as they cook.  No, these weren’t dropped in the grass, LOL!  That’s the fresh thyme!

The combination of franks and these toppings may not be Kosher.

You’ll find Hebrew National Beef Franks at Kroger.  Shoppers can save up to $2.00 on Hebrew National all-beef franks.  Try those bun length ones too!  I think they’re my new favorite.  I love that I don’t have any leftover bun with no hot dog.  YAY!  While you’re at Kroger grab some of these toppings that I used: tomatoes, cucumber, onion and mustard.  Don’t forget the hot dog buns!

This hot dog was delicious!  I should know because I ate it after I took this photo.  LOL!  My husband prepared this one for me.  Didn’t he do a great job?  Those are tomatoes and cucumbers from our garden.  We’ve made a promise to ourselves that we’ll find ways to use all of the vegetables from our garden this year.  If you’ve ever grown a garden you’ve probably ended up with  more than you can use.  We’re happy to give it away but we’re really trying to make sure we think of our meals in new ways, adding veggies where we might not have in the past.  This spicy marinated hot dog is well balanced by these toppings.  You should try it!

What toppings do you add to your hot dogs?

  1. I tend to just eat plain hot dogs on plain buns, but the idea of marinating the hot dog and then adding vegetable toppings is awesome. Thyme just happens to be my favorite herb. #client
