Hey, they are easy to prepare, so don’t be afraid to try! Grab the Cornish hens and the next 5 ingredients: apple cider vinegar, red currant jelly, granulated garlic, butter and 1 medium onion.

The only trouble you have to go to is mincing the onions.  Since this is a recipe my husband created, he’s the onion mincer and the cook.  LOL!  Thanks, babe!

Red Currant Glazed Grilled Cornish Hens

Using Cornish Hens & 5 simple ingredients you can create a lovely gourmet meal, that everyone will love – especially you because it’s easy!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups apple vinegar cider
  • 12 oz red currant jelly
  • 1 tsp. granulated garlic
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 medium onion minced

Instructions
 

  • Add apple cider vinegar, garlic, minced onion to a pot and bring to a boil.
  • Boil 1 minute or until onion turns translucent.
  • Add red currant jelly.
  • Whisk or stir until jelly is melted.
  • Turn heat to low.
  • Add Tbsp of butter.
  • Whisk or stir until butter melts.
  • Save 1/2 cup of sauce aside for adding to hens before serving.
  • Keep sauce warm while you season hens with salt and pepper, if desired.
  • Cook for 20 minutes on grill.
  • Baste with sauce pouring over skin until the hen is fully cooked.
  • This recipe can be made on a gas grill, charcoal grill or in the oven.
  • *Make sure the chicken has reached full cooked temperature. One way to gauge it is by turning the leg bone, if it turns easily, it is done.

Add everything, except the hens, to the pot and boil, according to the recipe above.

This recipe can be made on a gas grill, charcoal grill or in the oven.  However you cook it, you’re going to want to baste it with the sauce, pouring it over the skin until the hen is fully cooked.

Make sure the chicken has reached full cooked temperature before serving it. One way to gauge it, besides using a meat thermometer, is by turning the leg bone, if it turns easily, it is done.

Don’t they look delicious?!  They were!  My husband served them with roasted potatoes and asparagus.  So good, so good … bah ba ba!  Even our teenage sons loved them!

Even though this sounds like a special occasion meal, Cornish Hens are great for any occasion.  Don’t just wait on Thanksgiving or Christmas.  We ate it on a random Monday night!
