Decorating Chipboard using Cricut Chip Decor Cartridge & Hobby Lobby Chipboard Letters VIDEO

I recently bought the Chip Decor Cricut cartridge from Hobby Lobby.  I think it’s pretty cool because you can use it along with chipboard letters that Hobby Lobby sells and quickly cut out paper that perfectly fits the letters.  That’s great for making a gifts, home decor, party favors and whatever you can dream up!  In this video, I’ll show you all about the cartridge and will take the letter from plain to  painted, Mod Podged, paper covered and ready to hang.  Check it out!

I’m using 1-inch foam brushes like these.  I have this mat covering my work surface:  Inkssentials Craft Sheet by Ranger.

Have a Crafty Day!

  1. Joy- thank you for the video! I totally ignored this cartridge when it came out, thinking I would never use it and that the font was kind of boring! But I love your little “J” and now I can see many possibilities – and sure is easier than tracing and cutting by hand! You enabler! 🙂 Thanks again for all you do!

    1. TeresaK,
Yeah…I resemble that “enabler” remark on this cart for sure! 😉
      Super hugs,

  2. LOL TeresaK! This was fun to use. Just think of all the fun things you can create and spell. Any occasion can be represented. Fun! Thank you!

  3. If anyone has trouble cutting the cross, Lori Anderson had this experience to share. “Just in case anyone asks…on the Chip Decor cross…you need to go into either your Gypsy or the Cricut Craft Room and rotate the image for it to cut out without chopping the bottom or top edge off. I used my Gypsy and rotated the image -38.00 on a 12X24 mat…it only uses a sliver of the other half of the mat…I know my cardstock was a 12X12 and if I remember correctly, I think I rotated my cardstock that was being cut so it would work…it’s been a while since I cut that one! It may possibly work on a 12X12 if you keep manipulating it…but I was already so flustered by the time I got to this point I think I just went with it!!! ”
    Thank you, Lori!

“Chip” Decor? Isn’t that the same as saying “Crimson Tide” decor? or is it more like “ChipMonk” decor that would involve a bottle of hand sanitizer on every horizontal surface? My guess is that this will NEVER make it past the moderator…. 😉

    1. LOL, Scott! I completely understood all that, my brother from another mother. 😉 I need to RTR a bottle of hand sanitizer for him. That would be perfect!

  5. Great video!!! Somehow I missed this cartridge and I am so happy that you did this video to show how it goes with the chipboard letters and your J came out fabulous!!!!

  6. I just bought this cartridge and was so excited to use the chip decor that you can buy with it. I got the crown 11″ and I had a couple of others already at home that I found in my craft room. well I cannot get anything to cut the right size. Any tips on how you get the bigger stuff to cut? I have the fleur-de-lis one too and have been trying for a long time to get it to cut right but it won’t. I also have the cricut explore machine so I am usuing the cricut design space to do everything.

    1. Hi Taylor,
I wish I could help but I don’t have that cartridge anymore. I don’t think it’s just you having trouble with it cutting. I have heard that other people have had problems cutting larger shapes too. I’m not sure what they have done to make it fit. I wish I had more answers for you.

  7. Can these shapes be found for the silhouette cameo?

    1. Hi Angela,
These were strictly a Cricut & Hobby Lobby co-branding. However, some people have had trouble getting the shapes/words to fit even using the Cricut cartridge. You might be just as happy or happier with the result if you trace the chipboard shape onto paper and cut it out. You could definitely create the words and most likely the shapes using the Silhouette software but getting them to fit perfectly would take time. The trace technique would be much faster. I hope that helps! 🙂
